Private exhibition of Mickaël Doucet’s “Villégiatures” series at the Residence of the Ambassador Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The series entitled “Villégiatures” by Mickaël Doucet presents the interiors of contemporary villas temporarily emptied of their inhabitants. Objects left aside here and there, somewhat enigmatic, lead the spectator to a story extracted from his own imagination. The juxtaposition of current images and fictional representations encourage the viewer to retreat into the in-between. The viewer is thus plunged halfway between the past and the future on both the narrative and the pictorial level. The pictorial harmony of each canvas reveals both contemporary phases with its design objects and ancient phases through its landscapes influenced by Flemish painters. This strange perception, accentuated by David Hockney’s work on perspective, full and empty space magnified by his swimming pools against the ground, reinforces the feeling of alienation that one feels in front of his works.
