The series – paintings and drawings – entitled “the dialectic of the absurd” is a fragment. A fragment of a world in decay, which shows the fragility of humanity, incapable of taking itself in hand to save itself…Caught in the straps that tear it away from life, from the balance of the world. She is its main actress. She is also, like these endangered animals, its main victim. This new series by Mickaël Doucet does not only show animals for whom time is counted, she directly questions humans about their actions and their own future? “Man has always had a responsibility towards his descendants and yet there is a form of absurdity in his behaviour: indeed, he is the main actor (if not the only one) of the accelerated devastation of the planet and he knows it! In a completely absurd way, he continues to satisfy his desires, consciously, and no doubt for economic reasons known to all, ignoring a real reflection on his present and future impact on biodiversity and the survival of his species. However, Man has no choice but to repair his past mistakes – and to do so as quickly as possible – and to anticipate the future if he wants his species to survive. Auguste Rodin used to say: “Art is the most sublime mission of Man since it is the exercise of thought that seeks to understand the world and make it understood. “In this sense, this series entitled “the dialectic of the absurd” is above all the pictorial representation of a statement: that of the fragility of the world. A statement on the impotence of Man to dispose of it with dignity, in a thoughtful and visionary way. And yet, it is by preserving biodiversity, by taking responsibility in the long term, through appropriate policies for the management of ecology, the environment and the protection of animal and plant species that Man will contribute to ensuring the existence of current and future generations of the human species. Through his canvases,Mickaël Doucet thus wishes, in his own way, to sensitize “the viewer” and to give an account of his shared concerns not only as a citizen, but also and above all as a human being concerned about the balance of the world. His choice as an artist: to work on the theme of endangered animals, by the typically absurd character of the direct influence of man on their extinction. This is also what led him to call this series “the dialectic of the absurd” since behind the representation of tied animals is obviously the hand of Man…
