” Les Espaces Libres ” by Mickaël Doucet Entirely realised with charcoal on paper, the series of ” Les Espaces Libres ” is a parallel black and white vision of the series of ” Les Villégiatures “. It opens up a wider field of investigation by extending to more generalist spaces such as municipal swimming pools, warehouses or public places… All of them are empty, or more precisely emptied of any human presence. The use of a black and white textured by the different tones of charcoal and the grain of the paper expresses this absence more intensely, as a form of vertiginous “catharsis of emptiness”, making this representation even more tragic in the literary sense of the term. The free spaces are, in fine, a kind of screenshot of the absolute vertigo of our contemporary societies, a beneficial moment of solitude in the anthill of the megalopolises we all know.
