“Keep on Running”. Jesper Blåder paints dark and intriguing, even frightening atmospheres that seem to be under imminent threat. He plunges the viewer into a mysterious atmosphere with characters that can be found from canvas to canvas, or landscapes with equally enigmatic architecture. The technical specificities of Blåder’s painting are the strength of his canvases. For example, the use of flat brushstrokes and acid tones give the paintings their visual power. The universe imagined by the artist evokes the aesthetics of street art and the world of video games. Effects such as pixelisation, blurring or distortion of faces give the impression of seeing the paintings through a faulty screen. In this way, the artist plays a real game with image, composition and space. Recently, Jesper Blåder’s painting has taken a new turn. He begins to compose his canvases from several juxtaposed panels, giving his work a new sculptural aspect. The now irregular shape of the frames intensifies the feeling of mystery as the scene seems to continue out of frame, leading the viewer to wonder what lies beyond the frame.
