“A Parisian German”; Jan Voss is above all a journey: from Turkey to Paris, this German artist never ceases to amaze us. His work is in perpetual motion. Lines and forms that juxtapose each other, that stop. The objective is to make a painting immobile in a disconcerting activity. By mixing collage and other complex assemblages, Jan Voss takes us into his moods and diverse representations of life. The influence of Narrative Figuration is very much present in his works. They tell us stories through the silhouettes of animals or men and women. But little by little, black signs come to saturate the watercolour lines. Jan Voss discovers himself under new aspects and new materials. In the 1980s he started to sculpt. Declining his language gave him greater freedom of expression. One could evoke signs close to graffiti. The important thing for him is to bring out the child with the overflowing imagination that resides in us. To bring us naively back to travel through the tales that his works dictate to us.
