Georges Noël

by Galerie Charron / Friday, 08 March 2019 / Published in Exhibitions

” Palimpsestes ” – Georges Noël has invented a personal support that will be found throughout his work: a mixture of pure pigments, sand and glue that produces a rough, granular or velvety surface, depending on the artist’s wishes. This material lends itself to his writing in all its forms, whether it runs on the surface or is incised into it, or whether it tears or crushes the backgrounds. Her vocabulary of signs, mysterious and magical, bears the imprint of her fascination for prehistoric, archaic and tribal cultures. In these “Palimpsests,” a term dear to the artist, matter and signs are, through their successive superimposition and erasure, the expression of layers of memory, emotions, and meaning.
